Vocational
Service is Rotary’s second
avenue of Service. As the induction in Rotary is Vocation
based, this branch of service is an integral part of Rotary
ideals. This service is the
Foundation of Grooming of different Vocations. Some of the

The main emphasis under
Vocational Service
during the year will be to achieve the following :
- To ask each member to share information on Rotary International
and the club’s activities with their places of business
or professional associations.
- To encourage members to display the Four way test in
their places of business.
- To develop and initiate a new project in support of
vocational service.
- To sponsor or participate in a career development project
for people with disabilities.
- To organize a Special vocational service activity during
Vocational Service month (October).
- To hold a forum on Ethics and the application of Four
way Test in business and professional life.
Rotary Club of Belur
in its service area has small scale and medium scale Manufacturing
Industry, especially in Foundries, Castings and Steel based
Manufacturing which gives immense opportunity to improve Vocational
Standards and adherence to Four Way Test.
In the backdrop of the above objectives,
separate Reports for Thrust Area of the concerned Chairman
are attached herewith.
In this year this Avenue of Service will
be of special importance to Our Club and it is proposed to
achieve the targets as set out in the Report of the Chairman
of our Thrust Area.
The Thrust Areas
for 2006-07 under Vocational Service are as under:
- Vocation at
Work - To open Training Centre at Bhagar Basti
where Training facilities in Tailoring, Computer Operation
and small scale self-employment Projects will be installed.To
popularize in the area technical training by selecting
appropriate candidates and deputing them for short training
courses. This will help placement in Industry.
- Vocation Awareness
-
- To highlight the importance of Four Way Test principles
by installing plaques at appropriate public places
like Bus-stand, Garden and Selected Schools, Railway
Stations etc.
- To inculcate in Schools, colleges and other educational
Institutions the importance of different Vocations.
- To hold Seminar by inviting reputed speakers to
highlight the importance of different Vocations.
- To liaison with Local Hospitals and Institute Award
/ Trophy for outstanding Nurses.

way Test Awards
- Rotary
Club of Belur has instituted Four
Way Test Award at District Level. Eminent Persons
who have professed principles laid down in Four Way Test
in their vocation at National Level are shortlisted and
recipient of such Award is finalised after due deliberations.
Outstanding Personalities like Kiran
Bedi, T. N. Seshan, Dr. V Kurien, Dr. Ramanand Sagar
and Menaka Gandhi
have been bestowed Four
Way Test Award in earlier years. This
is a prestigious Project of Rotary Club of Belur and has
received wide recognition.
This Year, Presentation
of Four Way Test Award was held on 3rd August 2006 at
G D Birla Sabhagar & awarded to N R Narayan Murthy,
Chief Mentor, Infosys Technologies Ltd.
Apart from above award, it is also proposed that outstanding
Policeman, Porter, Rickshaw Puller etc. should be identified
within particular vicinity and such persons be recognized
by Award/Certificate.
- Vocational Guidance & Development-
This branch of Vocational
service is aimed at promoting Career Development &
Guidance. It is proposed :
- To organize in High Schools especially for them
in Class IX and X the Career guidance programs in
different Vocations.
- Support apprenticeship program to help unskilled
labours.
- By interacting with School and College Authorities
to streamline various Options available based on aptitude
of Students.
- To have at least one member provide an internship
at their place of business to a high school or college
student.
- To involve more women in Vocational training.
- To organise Vocational service month in October.
- Organise regular training programs in RCCs and other
rural and urban areas for employment generation and
poverty alleviation.
- Youth Services & Activities

- To organize Annual Sports Meet at Rotary Bal Vikas
Kendra.
- To bring in new young members to invigorate the
club.
- To motivate the young members to actively participate
in club projects.
- To ask each member of the club to mentor a young
person.
- To institute awards for excellence in sports.
Rotaract
-
- To revive the Rotract Club and provide support in
all their projects.
- To make the Rotracts participate in all club projects.
- Interact
-
- To look for and interact with schools to develop
Interact club activity.
- To develop a project for participation by school
students in liaison with schools.
